Understand Your Secret Career Ingredient
How do I determine my Enneatype?
1. Take the online test.

2. Study the type descriptions.

3. Peruse the book store.

4. Sign up for a professional typing interview.

Understanding your own Enneatype gives you a tremendous advantage in key career decisions:
  • Determine a secret ingredient in how to market yourself
  • Highlight what makes you more valuable than the next person
  • Target the roles where you will naturally excel
  • Identify which organizations desperately need you
When you read the type descriptions on this site you may relate to more than one description. While all people can relate to all the types to some degree, each of us has a primary Enneatype that we have exhibited since we were young and that stays with us until we die. Unlike in many other assessment tools, where individuals fall within a spectrum between different personality measurements, in this assessment tool, your primary Enneatype does not change. You certainly mature, learn and grow over time; however, your Enneatype is a constant and you are working within its parameters throughout your life.

Since your Enneatype is a powerful constant for you, why not find out what it is exactly, and leverage it to your benefit? Without being aware of the unique parameters that we work within, we often make the mistake of assuming that other people think the same way we do. We don't realize the bias that we bring to the table in each work problem, each conversation, each negotiation, etc. While bias is often discussed as a handicap, in the context of Enneatype, it is also an asset. Each type has a unique skill set to see and understand things that others don't see and understand as well as we do.

Your Enneatype is your "secret ingredient" that you bring to your career that can help you excel. It is not only advantageous to know your own bias and how you might be perceived by others, but it is also extremely useful to identify other people's biases. Usually the people you are working with are not aware of their own Enneatypes. Once you become familiar with the nine Enneatypes, you can often spot them in others and surprisingly predict how others will react and think. You can also get insight into how they will react to you and which measures you take that will and will not work in different situations.

It is important to note that no personality type is better or worse than another. Each type has its strengths and weaknesses. There is no hierarchy here, only differences worth understanding and appreciating. A person of any Enneatype can do any job, however each type might approach the job slightly differently. When a work group is made up entirely of people with the same personality type, this is usually a detriment to the team's effectiveness. Individuals of each type bring something important to the table. It is advantageous to build diversity of types within a team to arm the team with a wider variety of skills. Understanding what that special something is that you bring to the group can help you understand how to market what makes you uniquely invaluable.

Professional Typing Interviews

Certain Enneatypes can be look-alikes and it may be difficult to decide between two or three types that you resonate with. By posing a battery of questions to you that are more detailed than those in the online test, a professional interviewer can help you get to the bottom of the key motivations that drive your activities and decisions from day to day. Many individuals find that they have a primary and a secondary Enneatype that they favor almost equally. The interviewer can also help you identify which characteristics you take on in stressful situations versus when you are in a relaxed enironment—states which can play into the complexity of your Enneatype.

Sign up for a 90 minute in-person assessment by a certified interviewer. Professional typing interviews are $100 USD. Professional interviews are available in several regions of Northern America, Europe, and Asia. Email us at
